Went and looked at the 2009 Honda Fit Sport, and decided to buy it. It is a 5-speed with 151K miles. Runs/Drives/Stops great, has some dings but is presentable.
Only “issue” is the seller put brand new snow tires on it in April. He was so proud of himself I couldn’t bear to ask why.
So now I need to decide between:
Swapping the nearly new 15" tires & rims off the xB and ignoring the TPMS light. (free)
Buying new 16" tires and demounting the 16" snows. (~$350-$400)
Buying new rims in 15" or 16" and getting new tires for them (Over $1000 easy with TPMS sensors)
Getting lucky and finding correct bolt pattern wheels with correct TPMS sensors on craigslist.

That’s a lovely color, and probably a nice little commuter with a hint of fun. I would say go with option 2, personally.

I’m bothered by stuff that doesn’t work, so I’d probably go for 2 or 3 (4 is fine to, but CL is just to flaky to waste time on for what you’d save). The choice between 2 or 3 would mostly come down to whether you expect to be in the same place long enough to justify the cost of wheels (or if you really want something specific for your summers).
In any event, congrats on the new ride!

Eeeek I live the Honda Fit! I tried to buy one in orange once but the deal fel through. I would definitely go with option 2.

Hah. I put new snows on my car in March when I trashed the old wheels so now I’m stuck too. I have 17" all-seasons in the garage but now have 16" wheels on the car. Hmm.
I love the purple though. Curious to hear your thoughts after a longer review.

Very nice.
I thought you Americans called aubergines, ‘eggplants’?
The Honda Fit/Jazz comes with Hondas ‘magic seat’s’ doesn’t it, like the previous gen Honda Civic?

We call them eggplants (though cooks at least will recognize the other name), and I think aubergine is preferred as the color name (assuming you go beyond purple).

Cheers mate.
Ye’, we go beyond purple. The awkward thing is different car companies will call what is essentially the same colour, a different name.
Hell, Skoda have two different names for the same colour, it’s called Petrol Blue in Britain, yet in Europe, it’s called Lava Blue.

I’m sorry, Lava Blue?! In what world is it blue?!

Congrats! I quite like the word Aubergine.
I have a habit/rule of naming my cars after actresses I like. My current car is named Emily, after Emily Blunt.

In the automotive world putting an actual colour means nothing (even petrol blue, petrol has no colour).
This is Dragon Green Metallic.
You know Piglet, Brit- Petrol Blue Metallic/Euro- Lava Blue Metallic.

Honda did the same thing with the grey that my TSX came in. In North America, it’s known as Grigio Metallic, while in other markets it’s Volcano Grey Metallic. It isn’t an Acura thing either, since the US Accord also came in it for a few years.

Ye’, I know right!?
They give names to colours and if your not looking at it, you’ve got to think what it is. Then they put actual colours in the name such as red, orange, yellow, etc.... but have no resemblance to that colour, red, orange, yellow, etc...

I can get my head around other companies having different names but when it’s the same company but different part of it such as VW, Audi, Skoda, SEAT, Porsche, Bentley, etc... that’s harder to take in, but the petrol/lava blue is the same colour, from the same factory sold in the same market pretty much, only the English Channel separating us, but called a different name.

Congrats! Those are such good factory wheels! I would 2 number 2 but either sell the dismounted tires and recover some money or, if you have somewhere to put ‘em and will need winters come winter, buy wheels for them. Bonus third option: number 4 but with the exact same wheels you’ve got. I figure there must be a million sets of Honda wheels on CL, no?

I’d probably do option 1 while I trolled for option 4.

Im leaning towards that. Swapping the wheels is my “right now” solution to leep me from trashing the snows by driving on them in warm weather.

Congrats! Looks like an excellent purchase. I’d go with option 2, which is high upfront but saves over time. If you want to go for option 4, the Fit is 4x100, the same as every four-lug Honda...this means tons of options both OEM and aftermarket. TPMS sensors are around $50 each, which I think is worth it, but I’m quite anal about having everything work right.
If you get new tires, I went with General Altimax RT43s, and they’ve been excellent to me. Even in the snow, but your dilemma implies you have that covered.

Nice, congratulations! It sounded like purple might be a downside in your book but I think it looks great.
I have a question about your question: how useful are TPMS sensors really? What sort of situations do they prevent relative to checking your tires once a week? Are they just common because most people don’t do that? Or do these have run flats where you might not notice total loss of pressure until you checked?

I don’t care about tpms aside from the annoyance of having a light on on the dash.
